Who is the Holy Ghost
The Holy Ghost or the Holy Spirit is the third Person of the Most Holy Trinity. The Holy Ghost has sometimes been compared to the love between the Father and the Son.
If the terms Father and Son are familiar to us from our own lives, defining the Spirit or Ghost is more complicated. The word “Spirit” is etymologically related to breath, life and vitality. Since everything in God is inseparably one, the life, breathing, loving in God is also one with Him – so we cannot but confess that the Holy Spirit or Holy Ghost is God.
The Holy Spirit is the one through whom God is not simply with us, but within us – within those who believe in Jesus as God’s only begotten Son who, being true God, became true man and redeemed us through His holy life, suffering, death and resurrection.
In fact, it is the Holy Spirit who calls us to faith, awakens faith in us, enlightens our heart, mind, and reason, enabling us to recognize God and His love and to accept Jesus. Through the Holy Spirit, God regenerates us in the sacrament of baptism and accepts us among His children.
Through the Holy Spirit, whom God has poured into us, He gives us virtues and spiritual gifts, enabling us to bear the fruit of the Spirit which, according to the Apostle Paul, is love, joy, peace, long-suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, and temperance.
The Holy Ghost makes us truly alive and helps us to be children of God, children of light and love.
